Special effects wiz John Carl Buechler's directorial debut Troll is a wacky ride that really, well, is just to wacky at times. But all in all it’s a fun ride. One might think of this as a Ghoulies rip off, but at the moment I can’t remember which one of the films came first, but I’m pretty sure it was Ghoulies. The premise is in an apartment building where the Potter’s are moving in. before I go on I must note that the father’s name is Harry, thus making his full name Harry Potter. I can’t help but wonder if this is where the Author of the books got that name from. Very doubtful but still interesting. Anyway as I was saying, as the Potters are moving in, for some reason there is a troll wondering downstairs in the basement. Now why nobody has eve seen this troll before or why it shows up at that moment is not know, but then again if it wasn’t like that there would be no movie. The troll then disguises himself as the little girl in the family and is soon going around transforming all the rooms in the apartment into some kind of fairy world. Now I couldn’t help but laugh when I first saw the troll, even the trolls that come out of the pods in the rooms are funny. One of the funniest and weirdest scenes in the movie is when out of now where all the trolls in the building all start singing in chorus with each other. Also notable is the cameos of June Lockhart from TV’s Lost In Space and Sonny Bono. Sonny Bono overplays his part to the point of overkill, playing some kind of love making hippie. I can’t help but feel that he was trying to shake off his former image. June Lockhart plays a Queen and guards the troll and makes sure he never gets out, little she help she is though. I must say I found the little girl in this movie very annoying more then anything. This is one of those movies that deserves a viewing now and then, It’s a fun little movie and I’m sure most people will find something in it’s stupidity to like.
