Special Effect ridden sci-fi adventure follows the crew of a space shuttle on they crash land on a foreign planet. The planets main feature is it’s orbit abound the sun, resulting in long hot days and then completes darkness during and eclipse every 22 years. The ship was also carrying a convicted murderer who soon escapes into the desert. The group soon learn they have more to deal with then just the convict though, played by Vin Diesel. Hiding in the dark is a flourish of Alien type creatures waiting for the next eclipse to happen so they can come out and hunt. It’s another wrong place at the wrong time picture but like I always say, hey, if they didn’t get there the at the exact time then there wouldn’t be a movie would there? Pitch Blacks main problem is there is way to much going on and to many sub plots to keep track on. Stuff soon starts to get confusing and many things make no since. One thing I never got is the story behind the Islamic Pilgrims or how they play into things, in the end their is just to many lose ends all capped off by the heroic Hollywood type ending where they escape safely, I mean you knew he was going to come back for the girl no matter how many times the makers said Riddick wasn’t your average hero type, what difference does it make? I personally think Pitch Black could have been so much more, all they had to do was drop the undertones and such and maybe a little more explanation behind some little things, like why were these very different people on the ship with each other in the first place, epically with a killer. Pitch Black does satisfy in most areas, although they could have focused more on the creatures as well. As for a sequel, how it would tie in I don’t know, in truth it sounds like just another way to cash in on Vin Diesel
