Riding on the success of the Exorcist the next couple years saw a slew of supernatural and possessed movies hit screens. One of those movies, that turned out to be better then the others, was The Omen. It tells the story about the a very wealthy political family who after trying many time sin vain to have one adopt a child. It turns out though that the child was born from a Jackal and is the devil in human form out to conquer the world using a political standpoint. The mother knows something right off the bat but it takes awhile. He must then allude fate and posses a set of daggers which hold the power to kill the child. It comes to a standoff between him and the police as he tried to take his sons life, but ultimately he doesn’t succeed and the boy makes it, evil and all. Maybe people will disagree but I think The Omen is a way better film then the Exorcist. I don’t know if it’s just me but I was bored stiff when watching the Exorcist. It didn’t hold anything special for me and wasn’t even freaky. The Omen was more appealing though with some cool, death scenes and a very well done storyline that kept you thinking and had some nice twists and turns included with it. Gregory Peck also lends some fine acting to a mix along with a superb helping cast. It all depends on what style you prefer when it comes to The Exorcist or the omen. The omen is followed by 2 sequels and a made for TV movie, also a sequel, but more of a re-hash of the first.
