Howling 5 Review

Howling 5

Probably the best of the Howling sequels, Howling 5: The Rebirth is a cross between a haunted house movie and a who dun nit. A group of people are invited to spend the night at and old castle that has been hole up since Medieval times years after al of the inhabitants committed a mass suicide. It’s soon realized though that one of them is not who they seem, and they must figure out who this person is before he kills off more people in the castle. This is a very well made film, only held back by it’s lack of budget and makeup effects. There is a very interesting back story that is revealed during the course of the film. It covers the real reason why they are there which leads all the way back to the mass suicide, where one of them, a baby survived. Thus cause the life line to move on, and all of the people gathered are part of that line. This is another one of those films that probably would have more of a following and gotten a little more exposure if it wasn’t for the misleading name, that makes you believe it’s just another lame Howling sequel, which it’s not, and like the rest it has no relation at all to the rest of the series. Howling Part 6: the Freaks is not far behind this one, both sequel wise and movie wise, only it’s different on all levels which makes the comparison different, but many people, and the new DVD of both films only makes this thought stronger, think that this long with six the best of the series aside from the first, so for ten bucks picking up the DVD might not be a bad idea.
