The sequels just kept rolling in for this series for some odd reason, even after the badness of the first two. The good news is they get better from here, except for New Moon Rising. Howling IV: The Original Nightmare sticks true to it’s title in a way, when in fact it does go back to what made the first so successful, and even borrows a lot of key points from the fires as well. Now it’s not nearly as well done as the first, and even though most critics think this is one of the worst of the series, enjoyed it. Like in the first, a stressed out women (played by Romy Windsor) takes a vacation to a cabin out in the country. She of course takes her husband to the small town where she soon starts to unfold the towns history, most of it centered around an old Church type building. Pretty soon it’s just her as her friends that come are killed off and her hubby is soon transformed into one of the night creatures. The story pans out as more of a mystery then a real gore story. The action and effects are kept till the end, the beginning focusing more on the towns history as she gets more in dept with her surroundings. My feelings are that this is far superior then the first two sequels, although it might not be as good as art V: The Freaks, but on the same level as Part VI: The Freaks.
