I had heard a lot about The Evil Dead before I finally check it out. I did realize one thing though after my initial viewing of the film, I had already watched part three without knowing it, being it goes under the title Army Of Darkness. I had really liked Army of Darkness as well. So it was no surprise that I really enjoyed the Evil Dead. It holds everything it says it does unlike countless other movies. It has plenty of gore for people like me, it actually hold suspense and it is capable of scaring the first time viewer who doesn’t know they are getting into. It involves a group of friends who rent out a cabin in the woods for the summer. What they don’t know is that they have unleashed the spirits of the dead by reading the Necronomican, or the book of the dead, which by the way is inked in blood and bound by human flesh. Once killed the bodies of the dead are the possessed by the evil spirit and come back, but they aren’t what they seem to be at first. Evil Dead is another of those films that was made for very little and has came to be a true classic of the horror genre. The one thing I particularly like about the film is that the character Ash, player by Bruce Campbell, is portrayed in the later movies as a her type, one liners and everything else. But in the first movie he is just a normal member of the cast who doesn’t stick out over the rest but soon finds himself to be the last one standing and must fight to stay alive. The Evil Dead is a top notch horror film no one should miss. It is followed by two sequels that are just as good, The Evil dead 2 and Army Of Darkness.
