Deranged Review

Deranged

One of the first Ed Gein movie adaptations, this is loosely based on the exploits of the infamous Wisconsin serial killer. What starts out as a documentary type film with some shots of a narrator telling the story of Ezra Cobb. These scene do seem out of place at times but as the film progresses they become less and less until the movie goes along on it’s alone with a narration during a scene of two. The film centers around Ezra Cobb, who Is a Norman Bates type figure who’s world evolves around his mother. When she dies a very bloody death for some odd reason, Ezra’s world turns upside down. He then focuses his sites on the female race. He soon meets one of his mother best friends, and soon he is one the lurk for more victims of his sick ways. The main problem with this film is that the scenes are so laughable, the mothers death, the interaction between Ezra and his victims, but yet the movie takes them so seriously. It’s a particularly slow movie without many perks. What little blood there is often fake and overdone, and the suspense just isn’t there even during the torture scene of the young bartender. Many people do love the film though and call it a grim tale of the macabre or some such thing. But I myself can’t get into this movie. It’s just takes itself to seriously when it is just so cheesy. It’s not bad movie though, just a low attempt at capturing some of the success of Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
